This mare lost about the back third of this hoof from an abscess. Cause of abscess not known. Owner spent 4 months soaking it everyday and the hoof grew back. A total re-growth of frog and bulbs. The mare was no longer lame/limping when these pics' were taken, but she was suffering from LOT (lack of trimming). She still has frog and bulb/heel developing. See far right. UPDATE: This mare has moved away so I won't get to see her anymore. :(
Above photo after 1st trim.
Top and Center pre-trim photos.

Another case of LOT (lack of trimming)!
Left and right after 1st trim.
Above, right front, TB, flat footed and gimpy walking, not at all happy with getting her feet trimmed.
Left front, bad flares, old abscess...
LOT...again
Got done what we could - at least got her some relief as she wasn't gimpy anymore after the trim. Owner basically rescued this horse, had had her about a month...and is in process of training to stand for trimming. Hopefully we can get more done next time.
Top row of photos is pre-trim. Middle row is after 2nd trim. (No photos from 1st trim, but basically trimmed just enough to relieve her of some discomfort.)
Photos to right are after 3rd trim. She is galloping and playing with her paddock mates. But she is on hay and minerals. No grain and no spring grass for her!
I'll be posting more photos as we progress.

Below: 5 year old Mini-horse, lack of trimming and too much grain.

Helping the healing power of
nature to mend this severe crack injury to hoof. Kept it properly trimmed and let the cracks grow out.  No epoxy, no shoe "to hold it together". This horse is out 24/7 in rocky flint hills pasture. Great stimulation for the hoof to use its natural mechanisms to heal. By June, remaining crack on side should be grown out.

First trim on Eclipse, MO Fox Trotter.
